Is it a good idea to start a board game business?
saw online businessman used banker, , told friend or quit , loved instead (for of older folk remember jimmy stewart's "you can't take you," same idea). him banker. , job pays bills, afraid of risk. skeptical while story successful, there may twenty more failures @ attempt. in community have 2 stores sell decent board games, , 1 specializes more in comic books , collectibles, while 1 specific board/card game type of store. both hold game nights. there game store closed down in november, leading me think board game store not wisest move. though, fair, location wasn't 1 business purposes. initial thought create online store, , pending results open shop.
here's business plan: on top of selling board games, have tournaments, buy-in, , winner wins copy of whatever game play night. if think way, let's say, expensive game have seen descent, @ $80 (let's $100 easy math). so, can charge $25 buy-in, , let's 10 people. ok, made $250, , lose $100 winner, gained $50 profit. of course, if game $25 buy-in cheaper $25, think idea. main concern if business tanks, pretty lose everything. other problem mentioned before, other stores have free board game nights, not many prizes involved, aside small discount here , there. absolutely love job, absolutely hate life if failed , left scrounging job too.
1 potential outcome open shop open @ night, go partnership, 2nd person run business during morning, run @ night. give distinct competitive advantage, , fail, still have other job. issue becomes finding willing that. thoughts/advice?
