“harlem shake”, not confused hip hop dance style, title of 2012 heavy bass instrumental track produced baauer. in february 2013, song spawned series of dance videos begin masked individual dancing alone in group before cutting wild dance party featuring entire group. despite name suggests, videos present wide range of hip hop dances, including bernie, twerking improvisations.

throughout second week of february 2013, more 4,000 “harlem shake” videos uploaded youtube each day, according youtube’s official trend report. february 13th, approximately 12,000 “harlem shake” videos had been posted, gaining more 44 million views.
