Do CPU cores work together or on different things?

depends on software you're running. if lot of multitasking office work, budgeting, etc, programs running may use different cores. gaming or running 1 app @ time on other hand uses 1 core. programs designed use multiple cores.

will multiple cores of cpu work (if have multiple programs running @ same time)to job done faster or each work on different job (if have number of programs straining ability of cpu)
