Is the Ipad worth buying?


i've been looking around on purchasing used ipad. husband purchased kindle fire hd 16g, it's ok. i'm not impressed on of games, they're slow , games cannot download because they're apple. :( saw playing solitaire on 1 2yrs ago , loved it, got it. going use internet. wondering if ipad worth purchasing? i'm not going out spend ton of money , purchase new one. ipad 2 ok , fast or should ipad 3? have battery life can cannot replaced? correct? thank you
