How have the arts impacted your life?
started piano lessons when 7, , flute when 12. went on achieve 3 conservatory degrees, teach full-time in schools in northeast on 30 years, perform great deal professionally, teach privately, , adjudicate thousands of next generation of musicians. (flutist) married wonderful pianist, makes complete duo, , add other colleague chamber music. cannot imagine 1 day in life without live music; fortunate have never worked 1 single day since 1971 in full-time professional music , music education, , although retired conducting/teaching job, continue play, concertize, adjudicate, , teach privately. until die.
greatest regret possible many years ago, extremely difficult - impossible - young talented, educated, , hard-working young musicians - , inconceivable wannabees , american idol droolers. never easy in arts - , difficult indeed. can remain in ivory tower here in ny family (all of whom professional classical musicians) , other colleagues, , attend concerts, learn new literature, , perform whenever wish - doors slamming shut next generation. financially support arts institutions there might future them - reminded of old saying every wish, angel gets wings; here, every republican conservative tea party gasbag elected, arts institution bites dust. not tell me koch brothers - donate avoid taxes (even more!) , try balance hideous karma.
life has been, on balance, quite wonderful. regret next generation of serious musicians/dancers/actors/ etc. not fortunate - , include son , wife, , fine students. - stand on beach , continue toss starfish . . . .
i want answers you, how arts have impacted life/what arts (singing, dancing, acting, ect...) mean you. know arts have had huge impact on life. love hear opinions other people!
