Coworker is a no show?

few weeks ago secretary in lab work in let go due serious attendance problem. calling out every week , on mondays , fridays , around holidays. faking sick number of days , coworkers , myself tired of doing work, relieved when let go (after 5 years of bs, let go none less).
temp hired , feel it's repeat of above situation. called in sick on third day! has been here (well scheduled work more it, not physically present) 2 weeks , 1 thing after another. death of friends mom, "stomach issues" , eating cake next day, etc. says needs surgery small benign tumor/cyst , needs week off. maybe i'm horrible person, don't understand how can have such bad luck in 2 weeks time. furthermore, if know may need have surgery, feel should prioritize not going both viewing , funeral of barely know , come work if not sick. in addition, did not offer come in early/stay late time has missed (more week in 2 weeks has been scheduled). performance has been so. few mistakes , taking personal calls several times day, i'd consider average subpar not factoring in attendance issues.

crazy going boss , saying being unreasonable in keeping girl on? other coworkers on side, tired of doing part of secretary's job in addition our own , not getting paid it. of have, in opinion, attendance record (rarely calling out , having ton of sick time available).

in situation cannot quit year due having pay approximately 10k worth of tuition money. want job , learn new things, rather job plus mind numbing data entry , answering phones. feel if problem did not exist move further in career instead of 5 steps backwards.

want unbiased opinion if crazy or not being upset boss allowing temp worker call out more has been @ work , hold job week longer while out on surgery.
