Phone company says I have paid them, bank says I have not - where do i stand?


payment mobile phone contract taken bank account direct debit, account didn't have enough money cover it, payment returned. double checked bank contract payment returned , should owe phone company money. telephoned phone company , insisted owed them nothing, account clear. thought myself records must not have been uodated, , called 5 days later again. told me same thing. said owed them nothing offered take payment anyway. said no, apparently owe them nothing.

stand? should count myself lucky saved myself £50 though system error? or make payment anyway (the system automated though, take money without stating reason payment, if think it's kind of charitable donation , have avoided paying!?). or wait , keep checking account see if going send me condcending email notifying me have not paid them , credit history bad?
