How do you reduce lag in Minecraft?

ok, should do. there mod called "optifine". if not know how install mods, there tutorial on minecraftforum topic of mod. when installed, menu video settings lot more complicated. optifine give performance boost itself, settings, when configured right, increase performance more. here, there list of important settings:

graphics: if minecraft laggy, set them "fast".
advanced opengl: useful if set "fast"
chuck loading: smooth
performance: slide way "max fps"
fog: fast
if click on "animations..." button, send sub-menu. set particles "decreased" or "minimal" (if lag "decreased", try "minimal")

right now, test performance. if good, turn settings 1 one. sure @ least see performance increase. if still laggy you, computer having issues. not know hardware specifications, can't tell whether hardware or software using resources. hope you.
