Turkish Culture/Do's and Dont's?

got married amazing man. turkey, has lived here in states 8 months out of year since 2009. have never been turkey; have dated several turkish men, have many close turkish friends, , work many turks.
american , have spent whole life latinos. know spanish, mexican/salvadorian dialects, not 'proper' spain spanish. have been immersed in culture , have been taken in many true latina. have become proud of it, , turkish has been total culture shock me. moved dc area hampton roads area, which, me, has been moving "little turkey" el salvador.
have learned loose turkish traditions friends, obviously, concerned husbands mother , rest of family. have read can online, wanted hear may know first hand score me points or @ least make them not hate me.
husband hatay, , family muslim (alevi) not particularly religious.
pretty specific circumstance i'm not counting on many helpful answers, worth @ least trying. maybe somewhere out there turkey on yahoo, maybe hatay, maybe alevi, don't know. helpful responses!
