Why wouldnt PS4 be backwards compatible?
cost, plain , simple.
ps3 uses proprietary cpu custom built sony -- cell's bizarre beast, , fact uses different instruction set , resource management than, well, pretty every other cpu out there big reason why ps3 version of many multiplatform games suffered. why devote development resources when every other version (360, pc, hell, wii), used commonplace powerpc/x86 architecture?
time around sony listened developers , abandoned own chipsets, going x86 platform. unfortunately, means way ps3 games either emulation (which resource intensive, in case, given cell architecture. , prone sorts of other incompatibility/play problems), or flat out including cell proc in every ps4, raising costs further (figure 75-100 bucks per machine).
that's why launch ps3 expensive (same exact problem ps2's emotion engine cpu), , caused machine sit on shelves until prices came down. they're making right call on one. expect ps3 major price cut , hover around years ps2 did in compensation upon launch of new machine.
ps2 , 1, seems bit odder. know they're pushing streaming content concept, it'd no effort @ include ps1 emulation, , thing's such beast should handle ps2 emu no problem (aside handful of games don't being emulated due weird hardware calls).
what reasons playstation developers have ignoring majority of fans want ps4 play ps3, 2 , 1?
