Did chimps evolve from gorillas?
no,
gorillas , chimpanzees (and of course) shared common ancestor lived around 9 million years ago.
our branch split later (~6 million years ago) humans , chimpanzees branches.
gorillas evolved on side.
2 gorilla species still alive, 2 chimpanzee species , 1 of humans
makes chimps more closely related humans other ape (except bonobos dwarf chimpanzees species)
