Can you drive from Nanaimo, Vancouver Island to Vancouver (the city)?

nope. water in between. guess haven't looked @ map of bc yet. ferry bc ferries terminal @ departure bay in nanaimo takes horseshoe bay in west vancouver on mainland, it's 25 minute drive downtown vancouver, if there no traffic jam on lion's gate bridge. cost $65 each way car , driver.
official crossing time ferry route hour , 35 minutes. in real life, take closer 2 hours time drive onto ferry until drive off it. doesn't count whatever time may have spent lined before on. on busy days, couple of hours.
can, of course, take ferry foot passenger. there transit bus stops @ both ferry terminals.
