What is a good pet bird for a beginner?

i've ever had dove before , child don't remember how care one.
i'm thinking work best be:

~ easy handle (doesn't mind being held, picked up)
~ easy care (since don't know how yet)
~ doesn't need bird companion (i'm looking one, if that's possible)
~ colorful (more gray or white dove)
~ sit me while i'm studying or ride around on shoulder while cooking, walking around, etc.
~ easy, docile temperament (i don't know if can chose breed birds though)

don't have preference bird 'loudness', don't mind noise, 24/7 screeching not want. it's not necessary, bird can learn 'people' words cool! (=
