So if i am in a plane or helicopter and there is an earthquake why don't i feel the earth shaking ?
air compressible - blades or wings compressing air support craft - effect of not extend down earth's surface - otherwise feel every time plane went over. if earth not "feel" plane or helicopter, how can push back?
if helicopter hovering on exact spot earth rose couple of feet (not common in earthquakes - side slip being more common) taking advantage of ground effect, craft pushed - although helicopters bounce enough close ground pilot might not notice.
, brings point side slip earthquakes have considerable effect on solid people , objects standing on surface or rigidly attached it, virtually no effect on liquids or gases - boat on lake not affected fault under slipping sideways under water.
