Should I pick up and move to California? Looking for objective viewpoint!?

background: have 15 year-old daughter adopted infant china student. focused on college choices , wants attend college in california. have lived in suburb of new orleans entire life, since 3. problem she's in fishbowl here. our roots area diminished (most family deceased) , find ourselves opportunity move summer, if desire. desires in more progressive, metropolitan area , don't blame her. feel owe -- live in part of united states has more options have here young college student, adult. other students @ high school leave lot desired, without going detail. have visited california many times , our favorite area around san francisco area, though we're open other areas well. it's funny, never thought san francisco area because similar new orleans area love area of california. continue visit , keep our home base here wants graduate high school in california , continue college education there, can't blame her--that's wants. tried getting interested in east coast based upon familiarity area, didn't much. should able find relevant job in area (i dba) worry housing , moving our pets. it's such big move , i'm not terribly far away retirement age. appreciate objective viewpoint and/or ideas.
