Is the classical position/seating the best when playing guitar?

have played 2 months , have gotten pretty decent @ guitar. reason, started out playing guitar on left leg (i'm righty). bring leg close center of body left hand isn't far out side. don't tilt guitar as classical guitarist would.

whenever try put guitar on right leg, neck of guitar pushes out far away body , it's awkward maneuver around fret board. there way counter this? feel easier fretting hand if guitar on right leg, it's awkward me. perhaps shouldn't drape picking hand on much? or strap?
