What natural causes might explain increasing acidification of global oceans?
ph of ocean has dropped 1/10 of ph unit in last century. since ph logarithmic scale, means acidity of ocean has moved 25% toward acid side. there no natural causes possibly account such large change in acidity.
means must other causes explain increase in acidity. increasing amount of carbon dioxide in atmosphere increases partial pressure , according henry's law, amount dissolves in oceans directly proportional partial pressure in atmosphere. since partial pressure of carbon dioxide in atmosphere gone 40%, might expect amount dissolves in upper levels of oceans 40% greater.
carbon dioxide dissolved in water produces carbonic acid, lower ph of ocean. mankind responsible of 40% increase in carbon dioxide in atmosphere , releasing 30 billion tons of carbon dioxide air each year. mankind part of nature suppose can man might natural cause.
