Do animals know what danger is?

there great true story read once, man , dog stranded on glacier , had cross fissure on narrow ice bridge. man went across first, , dog scared go on narrow, crumbling bridge. made way across, , when reached man on other side jumped in circles barking, ecstatic had made without falling. understood had happened, , danger had been. unless dog put in situation, won't occur him.

dog knows instinct (and possibly experiences of falling) bad go on cliff, animals don't have imagination, wouldn't think ahead far realize "i shouldn't go near cliff because if misstep fall off". "if misstep" concept beyond it, because doesn't intend misstep. might have dog careful around cliffs, he'll know not go on edge on purpose.

if dog goes near edge of cliff, know dangerous?
