How do I factory reset my Ps3?

first , foremost, need use ps3's safe mode !

secondly, have saved data on hdd or else risk losing data !

note: ps3 requires using removable storage media formatted fat32.

safe mode options

restart system - ends safe mode , restarts playstation 3 normally.

restore default settings - performs same operations [restore default settings] on xmb, , deletes sony entertainment network account information system.

restore file system - attempts repair areas on hard disk drive files can saved. corrupted data may erased if cannot recovered.

rebuild database - deletes messages, playlists, changes made on [information] screens, trimming information pictures in [photo], video thumbnails, video playback history , video resume information.

operation may take long time depending on type , number of data items.

restore ps3 system - important: data , settings lost performing step.
reformat hard drive on playstation 3, deleting data , restoring if came out of box. same [restore ps3 system] on xmb.

system update - updates ps3 system software. can done update file saved on external storage media, such usb drive.

activating safe mode

step 1: turn off playstation 3 holding power button on front of unit till power light red.

step 2:

touch , hold power button (do not remove finger button). hear first beep, meaning playstation 3 powering on.
continue hold power button , after 5 seconds, hear second beep, indicating video reset.
continue hold power button , after 5 seconds hear third beep , system power off (power light red).

step 3:

touch , hold power button (again, not remove finger button). in step 2, hear first beep, again playstation 3 power on.
continue hold power button , after 5 seconds, hear second beep video reset.

continue hold power button , after 5 seconds hear quick double beep. @ point release power button. if succeeded in activating safe mode, see message on screen saying, "connect controller using usb cable , press ps button."

connect usb cable controller , playstation 3 , press ps button enter safe mode.

step 4: recommend performing safe mode options in following order until 1 of options works you. if 1 of options work, not continue onto other options.

restore default settings (item 2)

rebuild database (item 4)
