Where in South Africa is afrikaans the dominant language?
there isn't 1 place afrikaans. there many towns people afrikaans-speaking. road signs have english in them, other signs.
western cape has greatest number of afrikaans speakers, mixed linguistically speaking (english, xhosa , afrikaans people on place). free state , pretoria can afrikaans well. towns, however, have "white" or "black" or "coloured" suburbs remnants of apartheid didn't disappear overnight. also, in south africa, there regional dialects. afrikaans-speakers north, cape , eastern cape/free state rather different in outlooks (think east coast/west coast/ southerners in usa).
think small town should sufficient. cities cosmopolitan , won't have opportunity practise.
warned though: cuteness factor increase thousand times over, afrikaners love when people learn speak afrikaans. same goes xhosa people when try learn isixhosa.
suggest stellenbosch. close caper town. local university (a afrikaans university international standard of education) has immersion program foreigners attempting learn afrikaans. region of lot of afrikaans history , culture (the afrikaans language monument etc).
luck!
where language of 95% of conversations? signs in afrikaans? move , become fluent in not seeing other languages, afrikaans?
