Are USB hard drives reliable?


computer's memory getting pretty full, have lot of videos stored. considering getting usb hard drive, i'm concerned might not reliable. hate have 1 crash , lose entire library.

if these things stop working or lose data, feasible run 2 of them simultaneously, 1 storing back-up copies? recommendations on best brands or models?
