in order become professional dancer not competition dancer, need born body, facility , musicality dance career requires. thin toothpick , not have ballet body or dancer's body less critical ballet. ballet 2% of population born requirements , no amount of training no matter how young starts can change that. next need professional not recreational training. recreational dance schools don't have right training pass on you. professional ballet schools, exclusively feeder schools professional ballet companies, screen being in 2% or wont train you. wont take untrained or undertrained dancer on age of 10 training ballet expected complete @ age 16 when apprentice professional ballet company , join corps de ballet 6 months later. if lucky move in ranks soloist principal. being said, there have been few female dancers have convinced ballet academy train them @ ripe old age of 12 or 13. misty copeland example mentioned @ age 13. on past 50-60 years can count how many times has happened on 1 hand. while men can , start later because have different requirements in ballet, not women. there has never been professional female ballet dancer started @ age 16 in question. if born gifts, not professional training offered @ age. reason being takes 10 years "make leg" in ballet. if training, can't, age many ballet dancers start thinking of retiring ballet carers short , young.
dancers on track ballet career, dorm @ ballet academies if don't live close. either home schooled or take academics arranged schools can take 20-30 hours of ballet classes week year round , graduate high school dance in ballet. there girls born necessary requirements, started @ age 7 or 8 when real ballet training begins , train @ best ballet academies because of gifts school of american ballet, never reach professional ranks. there few jobs.
perhaps can competition dance not professional form of dance , there lot of opportunity compete. there many small competition dance studios over. should know competition dance training not dance career. there level of schools , training more tricks proper form. in professional dance world doesn't cut it. except perhaps rockettes or las vegas etc. there have been few have been able retrain have career, not whole lot. so, 10% of best trained dancers work , 10% of them can make living @ it. starting @ age 16 isn't realistic.
