Map & Compass versus GPS for hiking navigation?

i'm confused, hear people map & compass superior gps navigating while hiking, , should "completely" ditch gps. i'm not sure if there's here i'm missing? i'm trying understand more, can make decision myself.

have hiking gps. after hearing ditch gps, went out , bought compass , print out maps backup when hiking. i've tried putting map & compass test, comparing how gps treats me. unless i'm missing something, seems every time gps makes you're less lost when "off trail" , trees high can't see landmarks. missing here?

instance, know how use "5 degree off set" compass landmark? find compass method takes me through weird terrain, while gps can take me there (i have topographic maps on gps knowing terrain ahead of me isn't worse map & compass).

example, know how use landmarks triangulate you're @ using map & compass? seems half of time trees high can't that, while gps tell me i'm @ place within 15 feet accuracy. don't know if i'm missing here?

also, notice compasses have break easier dedicated garmin hiking gps. i'd worried ditching gps, because if drop compass , broke? of course, bring map & compass backup because gps have software issues or if strange reason forgot throw batteries in pack, doesn't mean i've found map & compass superior in navigation.

i'm curious curious debate what's better navigation, map & compass versus gps, , why ditch gps?

input!!!
