Is it stupid to live in New York for a year?


i'm australia , qualify year long visa us.
don't know want job or think i'd move away home , comfort zone while. want move somewhere explore i'm person , 'find myself' if you'll forgive cheesy cliche.
have wanted go new york city think might travel month or 2 before living in nyc remaining part of year.
question is, idea or not?
have fair bit of money saved , allowed work don't think money big issue, i'll try live within means without having dip in savings often.
new york city place go alone, know no one, , try , start new while? or end being bitter , twisted?

10 year old who I babysit has hit me, etc. What should I do?
