Have humans been omnivores since the beginning of time?
define "beginning of time".
anyway, humans of homo sapiens species have been omnivorous since beginning of homo sapiens species (around 200,000 years ago).and since beginning of homo genus (around 2.4 million years ago). human species have been hunting since homo ergaster/erectus (~2 million)
our australopithecine ancestors omnivorous too, , have been apes since split african monkey family 25 million years ago. in time our ancestors frugivorous got proteins when catch insects modern monkeys.
however, none of them in times called "human".
omnivorous means can rely on meat and/or plants depending on available resources , climate.
example,
- cro-magnon men (european ice age homo sapiens, direct ancestors) 70 % carnivorous (that means 100 % in winter) , our neanderthalian neighbours around 80 - 85 %.
- @ same time, our african cousins invented millstone!.
- since neolithic (10,000 years ago), our diet has become more , more vegetarian because of overpopulation , starvations: less 30 % carnivorous in average nowadays.
or think man carnivore , adapted himself eating plants , fruits?
