How to know if there is drywall behind wains coating?


if have wall switch in room, remove plate (do not remove switch) , see edge of , wall materials. if not see wall board or plaster behind wains coating, if might furred out wood strips, needed nailing , gluing. either way, removing wains coating difficult project if because not know or how or why installed. because there bad plaster wall crack needed extensive repair, or other surface defect. if nailed furring strips, need removed , damage remaining wall surface. luck!

i want re-do room , take off wains coating, mom isn't sure if there drywall behind it. how know?
