Sanding popcorn ceiling risks?


said previous answerer, use spritzer bottle , wet , scrape off. wouldn't worry making small digs ceiling because have put finish coat of compound on tape joints following reason: popcorn used because smooth finish coat (i.e. 3rd coat) isn't needed due texture covering , hiding irregular areas. was/is money saver because not time needed finish ceiling no sanding of joints needed (if have decent taper). fire code requires minimum of 2 coats of compound on joints possible using using "hot" mud tape , spray ceiling , have done in 1-2 days. take work light after scraping popcorn off , chances you'll see joints not real smooth. messy endeavor scrape it's still better sanding.
