friction principally important proper functioning of moving handrails of escalator. handrails driven friction , if there insufficient, speed can 'out-of-synchronisation' of stair treads, possibly leading accidents riders. furthermore, because handrail belts subject continuous reverse bending when in service, heat up. if slipping become hotter, reducing useful service life , possibly cause burn injuries riders , in extreme case slipping cause fire.
