Why do royals seldom use their surnames?


tradition going hundreds of years. known unnecessary them use surnames...and of course, separates them ordinary plebe.

during first world war when windsors decided change family name, there controversy on changing from...they didn't know surname suppose be. general concensus was saxe-coburg-gotha, disagreed. of course, officially windsor.
