Durable mountain bike for $400?


don't consider myself experienced mountain bike rider however, have been riding trails , rugged terrain since 7 years old. need mountain bike can handle constant abuse , rocky dirt trails live in socal , enjoy biking them daily. diamondback have seasoned bent front rim , uncomfortable suspension. believe $200 when bought in 07' , rims cheap , keep bending under hard riding trail conditions. don't want spend more $450 max, that's budget. want can ride , work on flat gravel roads durable enough handle potholes, steep trail grades, , riding through mountains. guys think best bike? share experience you've had different brands.
