Why do rugby commentators on TV always refer to the ground as the floor?


i've never come across can understand why use it. refer floor beneath you/person/rugby player...they use ground (sometimes) , "deck" in deck of ship.

it's figure of speech make commentary more interesting...

edit: here's interesting commentary. super rugby match, brumbies against,,,uh, can't remember...anyway phil kearns like: "mccabe...pat mccabe...tearing defence wild mountain goat"...hahaha!

needless "wild mountain goat" approach didn't work coz brumbies lost game! :(

the floor sea floor or floor of cave, or in room. not outside.

proper call floor in stadiums have roof? started it?

seems odd.
